Week Four

Issac Mizrahi - Fashion and Creativity

Creativity is defined the use of imagination or original ideas to create something . Isaac Mizrahi gives a new meaning to creativity . He defined it as typical designer . He talks about inspiration but doesn't know where inspiration comes from .

From scenery or music , he has a good choice of colours and lines for the clothes that he designed to make it more interesting . Isacc Mizrahi inspires us to do what makes us happy . He does what he wants and his happiness was shown in his clothes .

Tony Fadell - The first secret of designing is ... noticing

A designer job is to see those everyday things , to feel them and to try improve upon them . There is a brain process called habituation , in a basic term called learning . It is a good thing our brain habituate because , if it doesn't , we could see every single detail of everything and there are no new things to learn .For everything we do , there are invisible problem that we can solve . We have to feel them to see them .

Look boarder is the first tip Tony Fadell gave us . He eleborates that we have to step back and look things and think how can we make the process easier . Second tip is look closer . When we focus on little details , there will be the ones that we know are important or not . Think younger is the last tip he gave . We need to have young people on our team , or people with young minds . This is because younger minds will immediately try to solve the problem and find a way to make it better .

See Think Wonder

In group of five , we are assigned to choose a topic and brainstorm about the topic using see , think and wonder technique . The topic we chose was durian .

At first start , it is difficult for us to think about what to write . With the help of the lecturer , we understand that every see , think and wonder column must have a link . For example , looking at the durian , i see spike . As spike is harmful , i think of weapon too . Therefore , i wonder if the durian can be used as a weapon .

By doing this brainstorming , i can see that it helps to expand our creativity to think more than what we see .

A Picture A Day

I see a feet .

I think of human body part .

I wonder why the candy was created that way .

The people who ate it , do they feel disgusted or they think it is unique ?

I see a net .

I think of netball .

I wonder why it wrap the two trees together .

Is there anyone uses the net to play ball or it was left like that only ?

I see a river .

I think of Singapore River .

I wonder if Badang's story true .

How strong was Badang that he manage to throw the big rock across the river ?

I see lines .

I think of arts .

I wonder what will happen if there is no art .

Will we see things differently or the same ?

Week Three

Steve Johnson - Where good ideas come from

An idea is a network of neurons firing in sync with each other inside your brain . It is a network of the most elementary network . Ideas are taken from other people what we learnt from .

Steve Johnson discussed that different people can improve people's ideas . It can make innovation to be more organic . He shared stories from the history for inspirations .

To sum up , ideas are unplanned . Therefore , they are unpredictable power of open innovative system .

 A Picture A Day

"Mmm ... Yummy . Hi Gummy Bear ! You look tasty , can i eat you ?"

I wonder why life has to be so unfair .

The yellow and orange paint spoil the whole look . Is that why you are sad , cat ?

From side view , I thought it is an old man posing for a picture ....

Cathay or Cat-Hay ? Whatever it is , the five pillars looks like french fries .

Be careful while playing , do not hurt yourself .

Week Two

Journey

   

        

It's the Hungry Ghost Festival now and it reminds me of Haw Par Villa . I went there for my journey this week . Located at Pasir Panjang Road , it was once called Tiger Balm Garden . Haw Par Villa contains many statues and are depicting scenes from chinese folklore , history and other various aspects of confucianism .

What attract me the most from the tour is "Ten Court of Hell" . It was dedicated to the teachings of traditional value through chinese folklore . Ten Court of Hell shows different punishment for different level in hell . It is enriching to learn about it . The videos uploaded shows some part of the exhibition .

Overall , Haw Par Villa has not much of tourist or people going there . They are lacking of maintenance too . The pond is not well taken care off and the statues and architecture looks scary .

Egg Experiment

 

 

29th July 2016 , egg experiment was held in class . For the experiment we required to keep the egg safe inside the cup that has to be drop from above . The first picture was how i keep the egg inside the cup . I used tissue papers and tape around the egg . The first video shows how my lecture drop it . I was scared and terrified . Hoping that the egg did not break , i checked it . From the exterior , it looked safe . While i wanted to cut the tape using penknife , i put much pressure and end up the egg breaks . It was funny . 

Breaking The Rules

1) WOHA Architects .

Buildings are meant to be our shelter , the one who safe us from sunshine and rain . Despite knowing the function of a building , WOHA Architects broke the rule by designing this building with a big open window .

2) Homecrux

Food makes everyone happy . A chair gives comfort . HomeCrux combines both to give their customer the pleasure they deserve .

3) Brandon Maxwell 

Brandon Maxwell is a fashion designer that broke the rules to make fashion to the next level . Although the meat dress is weird , he has something outstanding from other fashion designers .

4) Poster Posses

No one's shadow is an ant . The designer created this poster to make it interesting that will carry out the title .

5) Mykie

Mykie is a makeup artist that do FX effects makeups . She broke the rule by transforming to other character by using makeup , latex and different kind of mediums .

Julie Burstein "4 Lessons in Creativity"

Creativity is everywhere around us . Creativity can be found in our daily life and experiences . We have to open up to daily experience to find our desires .

With ambition , we faced alot of challenges and difficulties in our life . Never avoid challenges as it embraced and teach us to be better . Although in our daily life has certain limit , we should try our best to go beyond the limit .

Failure is an inevitable part of success . Therefore we should admit and embrace loss .
